Iron man of India - Invaluable contribution to independent India

The Iron man of India, Vallabhbhai Jhaverbhai Patel, popularly known as Sardar Patel. They have a huge contribution in uniting India. He Integrated 562 Princely States into India.

Sardar patel was born on 31 October 1875 in Nadid Village, Gujarat. His father's name was Jhaverbhai Patel and mother's name was Ladba Devi.

Sardar Patel worked hard with the title of barrister. And also started working in the country service. There was a difference of sky between Pt. Nehru and Sardar Patel. Although both of them went to England and obtained a degree in barristy, Sardar Patel was far ahead of Pt. Nehru in advocacy and he was the first place among the students of the entire British Empire.


Returning to India in 1913, Sardar Patel settled in Ahmedabad and rapidly progressed to become one of the leading barristers of crime law in the Ahmedabad Lawyers Bar. 

In 1917, Gandhiji came in direct contact for the first time. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was an Indian barrister and politician, and one of the main leaders of the Indian National Congress.

The Bardoli Satyagraha was a major peasant movement in Gujarat during the Indian independence struggle in 1928, led by Vallabhbhai Patel. At that time the provincial government had increased the rent of farmers by thirty percent. Patel strongly opposed this revenue increase. Government took drastic measures to crush the movement, but eventually forced to accept the demands of the farmers. Sardar Patel, who was leading the Bardoli Satyagraha, conferred the title of Sardar on the success of Satyagraha.

He was a social activist who fought hard for the independence of the country and contributed greatly in tying the country to the thread of unity.

After independence of India, he was given the charge of Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister. At the time of independence there were 562 indigenous states in India. Their area was 40 percent of India. His first priority as Home Minister was to unite the indigenous princely states (states) in India. He edited it without shedding any blood.

On 15 December 1950, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel suffered a massive heart attack after prolonged illness at Birla House in Mumbai, which led to his death.

Ahmedabad's airport has been named Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in honor of Sardar Patel. 

Sardar Patel was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest honor in the year 1991.

On 31 October 2013, on the occasion of the 137th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the then Chief Minister of Gujarat, Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of a new memorial of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in Gujarat's Narmada district

It was decided to erect a huge statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel made of iron here, hence the monument is named 'Statue of Unity'.  The proposed statue is installed on a small rocky island 'Sadhu Bet'. Has been done which is situated in the middle of Narmada River 
in front of Sardar Sarovar Dam in Kevadia.
